Mbarara City’s “Gikwateko” and OTT Tax top supporter MP Micheal Tusiime has today been shown “bums” as he recorded a landslide loss in the NRM primaries of the newly operationalised city.
Mbarara City North, the constituency that was curved out of the former Mbarara Municipality region attracted among others, NRM Chairperson of the Entreprenuers’ League Dr. Robert Mwesigwa Rukaari who is also Uganda’s Consul to Morocco.
Dr. Rukaari, by press time was leading in the constituency with Tusiime polling as low as zero on some polling stations. Tusiime registered very low on the Biharwe East Playground station when his agent collapsed after seeing the zig-zagging line of Dr. Rukaari.
He joined Parliament in 2016 after defeating National Drug Authority (NDA) Executive Director Dr. Medard Bitekyerezo in the NRM Primaries and FDC’s Maj. John Kazoora in the general election.
He infamously supported the levying of the much hated (among youths) Over The Top (OTT) tax that charges an amount whenever the population want to use Social Media in the country.
He is also recalled for recording a resounding “YES” while ammending the constitution of the Republic of Uganda to remove the age limit cap at 75. In his words, he said the people of Mbarara told him to vigorously touch it (the constitution).
