The Opposition Needs to Unite in Constituencies to Chase NRM Out of Parliament – Mao

Democratic Party (DP) President General, Nobert Mao has appealed to other members in the opposition political space to combine efforts if they’re to ever cause a “situation” in the August House that is predominantly NRM.

NRM has 298 Members of Parliament (MPs) out of over 426 seats in the house. FDC has some 36 members, DP 15, UPC 06 and over 66 Independents.

Speaking at last night’s NBS Frontline, Mao said the opposition can capitalize on unity to swing some seats away from the NRM and strengthen their grip on the August House.

“We have been advocating that where there is a hoe, there should be no umbrella, where there is a hoe, there should be no key in order to neutralize the NRM.” Mao says.

National Unity Platform (NUP) spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, agreed with the DP President and emphasised that they need to take that route beyond just talking.

“We need to build trust among opposition parties towards that direction and ideology. Once we can trust each other and engage about that in harmony, it would be a big plus for the opposition.” Ssenyonyi said.
