Independent presidential candidate Willy Mayambala has lashed out at the incumbent president and National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer Yoweri Museveni for statements he made while in Rukungiri on his campaign trail that he has seen no one fit for president among those contesting.

“A message to Museveni, I understand that he says that there’s no one he can trust the country with and that he sees no one fit to replace him. To Museveni, I want to say that this country is not your monarch, no one invited you, and you don’t have to choose who the next president is. The only thing I can assure you is a safe retirement after the election. Come January 14t

“A message to Museveni, I understand that he says that there’s no one he can trust with the country and that he sees no one fit to replace him. To Museveni, I want to say that this country is not your monarch, no one invited you, and you don’t have to choose who the next president is. The only thing I can assure you is a safe retirement after the election. Come January 14th when I’ve defeated you in this election, then please peacefully move on and go,” Mayambala said.

Mayambala said these while addressing the media about calling off his physical campaigns due to surge in corona virus cases across the country.

“We start with an apology to the people of Eastern Uganda particularly Soroti District for this decision. The main reason behind this is because of the corona virus cases that have grown exponentially. The pandemic has surged and for that reason am pulling back from the campaign. As a president who will be people centered, I see that this is the best decision to protect the people I will lead,” Mayambala said.

Mayambala also requested the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to provide him with the contacts of Ugandans to enable him in his digital campaigns.

“I’m calling upon NIRA to give me the contacts of all the Ugandans so that we can contact them directly through text messages and WhatsApp in our new digital campaigns.”

Mayambala, who has been facing financial constraints, will now take a digital approach to campaigns which will be a safer and cheaper method compared to the physical ones that he has been engaging in.
