All day, Twitter users in Uganda have been trying to get their heads around the fact that a show producer and sound engineer at a broadcast that seeks to give women a voice still has his job even after a video of himself physically abusing his wife was shared with the broadcast owners and hosts.
Eugene Kavuma, a producer at Black No Sugar, an alternative media platform that allows young women to voice their concerns and opinions on matters affecting them, was implicated in a domestic violence case and is still answering Police Summons at the moment.
According to his wife, the man’s violence doesn’t stop at her and he has regularly inflicted it on their toddler who on several occasions has confided in the mom about his daddy’s violent nature.
“At night after his bath, I catch up with my son. Me: ‘How was your day?’ Him: Holding his ribs, PAPA, HURT ME! Today, in the middle of a hug, he put his fingers round my neck, in mimic of what he’d witnessed. Domestic violence hurts everyone,in every way!” Winfred Apio, the accused’s wife described an earlier conversation she had with their son about the father’s violent nature.
When an army of self proclaimed feminists that advocate for the safety of women and have been on several occasions emphasizing that the victim’s story matters and she should be believed decided to shield their man, hell came down falling for them.
Using the show’s platform, they released a statement about the allegations and said they would allow him to ‘answer’ the claims brought against them. It was also discovered that the abusive man has been sleeping with one of the hosts even when he has not formerly left his marriage to Ms Apio.
To better describe the scenario that the show and it’s producers find themselves in right now, where they are seemingly defending an abusive man to protect the image of the show and ‘his new catch’, a twitter user had this to say.
