A juvenile (aged 15 years) who was being detained at Kawempe Police Station over allegations of rape has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to the spokesperson for Kampala metropolitan, Patrick Onyango, the accused was arrested over allegations of defilement of a three year old girl.
“Investigations on the case were carried out and concluded that the suspect committed the wrong,” said Onyango, “he was then remanded to Naguru Juvenile Remand Home.”
The officials at the Remand Centre demanded for a COVID-19 test certificate of the suspect before he could be admitted. Due to that request, he was taken for testing by Police and results indicated he was positive.
Onyango concluded that the accused is to be transferred to Entebbe Grade B hospital for treatment and later, he will be brought back to serve his punishment.
For this very matter, Kawempe Police Station has been closed off till further notice. The staff members are to be taken for testing as well as the family members of the suspect.
