After expressing interest in Mayorship for Kampala City, Alhajji Nasser Ntege Ssebaggala, a former Mayor of the same city and presidential aspirant has made a decision to contest on the People Power ticket.
His decision has rattled many politicians including Hon. Betty Nambooze Bakireke a stalwart Democratic Party (DP) politician as well as legislator for Mukono Municipality.
In response to the Ssebaggala’s decision, Nambooze spelt out how the former Mayor was a mole who had no love for People Power but rather using the opportunity to use youths and put them off track.
She reminded him of a Luganda statement that he famously said during his hydays. “Bw’oba oyagala okutta ebinyonyi, ogenda gyebilila” loosely translated as “if you want to kill birds, go where they feed.”
All this drama happened on NBS’ Barometer Extra show where both politicians had been guests last night.
“On my way to the studio I met Ssebaggala without a People Power beret but when he reached the studio door that’s when he put on it because the cameras were on, is that what we call love or commitment? Ssebaggala is one of the people I highly respect and I’m not speaking out of hatred.” Nambooze defended her position.
Alhajji Ssebaggala is a Ugandan businessman based in Kampala as well as politician who contested for presidency in 2001 as an independent candidate.
He was Mayor of Kampala City from 2006 to 2011 before switching to NRM where he was made Minister without portfolio and later Presidential Advisor in President Museveni’s government. He is still serving in his latter position.
