Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has blamed “State Agencies” for running a blackmail campaign and harassing her voters in her bid to be the NRM 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female).

Kadaga, who faced a spirited campaign by State Minister for Lands Ms Persis Namuganza whom the Speaker says was favoured by State Agencies.

President Museveni, just days ago, talked Francis Babu out of the race to compete with Al Hajji Moses Kigongo for the 1st National Vice Chairperson position of the party.

According to sources, President Museveni said that Kigongo’s competition was not fit for the position. Among other competitors was Kefa Mafumo and businessman Hakeen Asiimwe who were all vetted out.

The President however, kept a blind eye as regards the race of Speaker Kadaga that was herself battling a youthful member of the party.

According to Kadaga, State Agencies have been against her campaign and have been fronting interests of Ms Namuganza the entire campaign. In a tweet that was later deleted, Kadaga accussed Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa of threatening her supporters but she said all that is behind now since she emerged victorious.

“With the CEC elections now past us, let us move past politics of hate and blackmail and focus on that which will make our Party stronger and attractive to both the young and old. Long live NRM.” Kadaga said.

She acknowledged the NRM for practicising and exhibiting democracy for the whole world to see and said the process gave all members confidence that they have a strong say in the party affairs.

“The last couple of weeks have confirmed to the country and to the world that in the NRM, democracy is not just a word we talk about but one that we practice…….yesterday’s victory was not just mine but the Party’s win. I would like to thank the delegates from all the districts for trusting me for yet another term on CEC.” She further said.
