A Rwandan National has been sentenced to 15 years in jail for killing her husband over Shs 20,000 he left her for YAKA (electricity) and found when she had diverted it.
On that fateful night 24th March, 2019 at Musajjalumbwa in Central Division, Kampala, Manishimwe Gorret as a result picked a quarrel with Mapeera Hamis and ordered him out of the house but the man didn’t leave, and while he was sleeping, Manishimwe stabbed him with a knife and escaped to Rwanda only to be arrested on 4th April, 2019 as she returned to Uganda.
She has admitted to murder charges before High Court Judge Anthony Ojok Oyuko under Judiciary’s Plea Bargain Program aimed at reducing congestion in prisons.
Under this Program a suspect who knows she or he committed the crime agrees with State and Court to plead guilty to his/her crime in exchange for a lesser sentence which arrangement also saves Court’s time and resources.
Manishimwe’s case is among the 50 cases being handled in a Special Criminal Session that has started today with all the suspects confessing to their crimes that include Murder, Aggravated Defilement and Robbery.
