Rwandan president, Paul Kagame has said that the Uganda-Rwanda border will remain closed because Uganda has continuously refused to adhere to the terms put forward by the Rwandan government to ensure amicable relations.

Three weeks ago, a team from Rwanda met envoys from Uganda at Speke Resort Munyonyo and among the terms they put forward was that Uganda should stop its active participation in the politics of Rwanda.

It is alleged that the Ugandan government conspired with rebels in trying to oust the current Rwandan government. The diplomats also said that Uganda should stop detaining Rwandan citizens without informing their home government and should also handover political asylum seekers they are shielding in Ugandan.

Commenting about the issue, Dr.Chris Baryomunsi the Housing Minister said Uganda hasn’t interfered in the politics of their close ally and that if there are any prisoners detained in Uganda, they will face the Ugandan law because there is no law that grants such criminals immunity.

The government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo re-echoed the minister’s words and further added that in the meeting with the Rwandese envoys, they requested them to provide a list of detainees which they didn’t have and that they asked them to carry out a joint verification in all prisons to see if there are detainees as the Rwandan government claims.
