Ruling Party NRM Takes Lion’s Share of District Chairperson Seats

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has recorded majority seats in the recently concluded LCV District Chairperson and City Mayoral races.

According to preliminary information that this website has received, the NRM won 85 out of the available 146 positions from 134 districts.

“The National Resistance Movement (NRM) won 85 seats out of the 146 available in LCV and City Mayoral races from the 135 districts. That translates to 63.4% of support.” Rosemary Namayanja, the NRM National Treasurer told The Ugandan Wire.

According to Namayanja, the preliminary election results compiled by the party on the District Chairperson elections, they won 05 positions in Acholi sub-region, 06 in Bukedi and Bunyoro each, 07 in Busoga, 06 in Elgon, 11 in greater Ankole, 02 in greater Luweero, 01 in greater Mpigi, 03 in greater Mubende and 01 in greater Mukono.

In Kampala, the party didn’t win a single seat but won 08 in Karamoja, 05 in Kigezi, 02 in Lango, 05 in Rwenzori, 05 in Teso and 10 in West Nile.

Ms Namayanja said those are the figures that the party managed to gather on their own but promised to compare with the figures of the Electoral Commission (EC).

Independents scooped 23 seats in the LCV polls (17.2), the National Unity Platform (NUP) won 11 seats (8.2%), the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) won 07 seats (5.2%), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) won 05 seats (3.7%), Democratic Party (DP) won 02 seats representing 3.7% while Gen. Muntu’s Alliance for National Transformation won 01 seat (0.7%).
