REVIEW: My Tasting Experience With the New Mirinda Orange Flavour

On Friday March 26th, 2021, I was part of a media crew that set out for White Sand Beach in Entebbe for the launch of the new Mirinda Orange flavour. Everything on the journey to the destination prepared me mentally and emotionally for the tasting experience.

I have to mention that we went there aboard the Kampala Sight Seeing double decker bus whose crew accorded us a 15 min tour of Kampala. I have been a resident of the Capital City for close to 7 years now but until then, I didn’t even know the story behind the name “Kampala.” I got it that day!

When we reached White Sand Beach, before we got engaged in the luxuries of food, sand and Lake Victoria waters, we were given an opportunity to taste the different flavours of Mirinda Orange (old and new) to try and see whether we’d notice a difference.

In my own experience, both tastes were great but there was something about Glass #2 that I later discovered was the new flavour. I don’t know how to describe the feeling of it in the mouth and down the throat (properly and with the right English terms.)

Do you know the spiky sensation you feel in your mouth whenever you taste an orange? It was the same feeling I had while tasting the new flavour. My guess, after knowing it is the new flavour, was that it was richer in natural orange. The feeling doesn’t only stop in the mouth, you keep with it as you wash the drink down your throat. A wonderful feeling if you ask me!

According to the Mirinda Brand Manager Ernest Ssentongo, the new orange flavour has been specifically formulated for the youthful consumer segment. He told this website that dispatch of the new Mirinda Orange Flavour began about a month ago and that consumers can already access it in any shop or supermarket countrywide.

“We conducted a survey and a taste test with several Orange drinkers, that revealed that the new Mirinda Orange flavour was the most preferred. And since we are in the business of providing exactly what our consumers ask for, that informed the decision to change and improve the flavour.’’ Mr. Ssentongo said at the launch.

He also revealed that the tasting experience with Media Personnel at the launch recorded over 80% preferance reviews for the new flavour. The Media Personnel included Radio and TV journalists, Online Media and Social Media Influencers.

The Head of Marketing Timothy Luzinda said that a nation-wide promotion dubbed ‘’Ora-ngeee’’ will be rolled out to support the new flavour across the country. This will involve several exciting activities ranging from product sampling, refreshed Key Visuals to winning various prizes.

The new flavour is available in all SKUs i.e., 300ml (Returnable Glass Bottle), 330ml, 500ml and 2 Litre. The prices of the new Mirinda Orange flavour remain the same as before.

The new Mirinda Orange flavour joins other Mirinda tagline carboated soft drinks such as Mirinda Fruity, Mirinda Orange, Mirinda Pineapple and Mirinda Green Apple flavours.
