The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) has ordered for the trial of an Indian National who kidnapped three people for a ransom under the guise of taking them to USA for jobs and claiming that he engaged in migrant work and employment from one State to another.

22 year old Butani Praful together with a Ugandan National a one Ignitious Mugumya between 21st and 26th January, 2020 in Kampala and Wakiso Districts are alleged to have kidnapped Atul Patel, Akshay Prajapati and  Sahil Patel against their will with intent to procure a ransom for their liberation from the danger of being murdered.

Resident State Attorney Janet Kitimbo informed Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Stella Amabilis that there is evidence implicating the accused persons to the said crime  and that she also had instructions to have them committed to the High Court for trial.

Evidence shows that Praful and Mugumya instead of taking the victims to America confined them at Allians Hotel in Bweyogerere – Kampala and started demanding money from their relatives.

Police later found them under Ignatius Mugumya’s custody while their passports and forged air tickets were found at the home of Praful in Bbunga, a Kampala surbub.

Magistrate Amabilis received the committal papers and sent the accused persons back to Luzira Prison with orders to wait for their trial in the next convenient session of the High court.
