Coronavirus hits hard but hunger hits harder. In these trying times I have heard people say “survival over quarantine” and it might not be your way but trust me, some people would rather contract the virus than die hungry in quarantine.
Just the other week, March 18th, the president of the republic of Uganda put in place measures to cub down the spread of the virus. Among the very many measures was the closure of educational institutions and that meant the immediate abdication by all students of Makerere University.
As every student was running to go home, a one Thomas Longat alias “Young Elder” a resident of Northcorte Hall wasn’t bothered at all simply because the journey to Kotido was long and he didnt have transport. He also said there had been no directive from the ‘president’ of Northcorte State who apparently is his only president.
Yesterday, late in the evening, the economic situation of Young Elder went from worst to unbearable, the starving Statesman (as they fondly refer to themselves) couldnt take it in no more so he decided to improvise.
“I made two rolex orders for some guys at Cheds Hostel, put them aside and was waiting for them to come and pick them when this guy came around pretending to want to buy something and he grabbed one and ran.” Faisal a renown rolex guy in Kikumi Kikumi narrated.
Young Elder hadn’t gone far when the boda boda men caught him and after beating him blue black amidst very many questions, he finally admitted his mistake.
“Me, son of Longat shall not die of hunger, I had to survive” Young Elder confessed.
He is to pay back the Shs 2000 if he wants to get both his university ID and National ID that are now in the rolex guy, Faisal’s, possession.
