According to reports coming in from Igara West, Bushenyi District, Kasambya County legislator Gaffa Mbwatekamwa has defeated Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, Horace Muhabuzi, Dr. Karuhanga, and Adam Kyakuwa among others in the race for Igara West Member of Parliament, NRM Primary.
The legislator who shifted his political base from Kasambya County in Mubende to Igara County West in Bushenyi district decried the poor services that people in his home district have been receiving despite having two ministers in the district.
Mbwatekamwa who has been twice arrested during campaigns has donated an ambulance to each sub-county in Igara West.
Speaking to one of the residents in Kyamuhunga sub-county, a one Akampa, said that they welcome Mbwatekamwa back home and they believe he will help them to access better serviuces that have been lacking in Igara West.
Mbwatekamwa is one of the NRM legislators who were branded rebels for voting against party positions in Parliament. He had initially stationed himself as a People Power ally but eventually returned to the NRM party after a recent meeting with President Yoweri Museveni.
The legislator who has represented Kasambya County in Mubende since 2016, was born and raised in Gongo village in Igara, Bushenyi District.
Elsewhere in the NRM parliamentary elections held today unknown Kabuura Derrick Baimukye has defeated 6 others in the Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality parliamentary race.
Baimukye has defeated Betty Kamya’s son Arnold Spencer Turwomwe, Incumbent Gordon Arinda Cowboy and Marvin Baryaruha, Enganzi Chris Muganzi, Nasser Kankuriremu and finally Dr. Musoke Rutagi.
In Igara East Mawanda survived narrowly by defeating Yeyard Rushatuka, Medard Muganzi, Fabiano Gakyalo, and Allen Isharaza.
