As the 2021 polls heat up, the ruling party, National Resistance Movement (NRM) is working tooth and nail so as to dance to the political tunes of the 2021 electoral roadmap with aims to emerge victorious in the various races all over the country. Their big fish, President Museveni, aims to retain presidency as well.

Senior Presidential Press Secretary, Don Wanyama has announced that this Tuesday, Mr Museveni will be nominated as the presidential flag bearer of the party at the Electoral Commission offices of the party.

He however guided that due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, just a few media houses shall have the chance to cast the event in a bid to practice the famous social distancing method of minimizing the spread of the gruesome virus.

It should be remembered that on Thursday, the party Electoral Commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi declared President Museveni a sole candidate in the race since all his would be opponents ‘failed to fulfill the minimum requirements’.

Tanga Odoi told the press that no one had picked nomination forms to challenge the incumbent, hence declaring him as the sole holder of the party flag in the forthcoming presidential elections.

It should also be remembered that last year, the party CEC endorsed Mr Museveni as the sole candidate for the 2021 presidential election.
This happened in Nwoya District at the famous Chobe Safari Lodge spear headed by the government chief whip Hon Ruth Nankabirwa.

Lots of challenges have been faced by the party to legally present President Museveni as a flag bearer and of which the most recent was a case that the constitutional court dismissed, a case that was tabled by Hon Theodore Sekikubo of Lwemiyaga County and others.

The constitutional court dismissed the case on grounds that it had no constitutional content for interpretation.
