The Uganda Police has deployed heavily in the Fort Portal, Kabarole District (Tooro Region) ahead of the arrival of National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine who is campaigning in Tooro Region today.
Kyagulanyi, who was arrested last week on Wednesday for flouting COVID-19 guidelines and SOPs in Luuka District, is beginning a fresh campaign schedule since his unfortunate arrest.
He was supposed to campaign in Kyegegwa District earlier today morning but his venue was blocked by the Police and they asked him to find a new venue.
Police fired teargas today as the NUP flag bearer reached Kyegegwa District and he wasn’t allowed to campaign in the area. Bobi Wine’s next schedule was in Kyenjonjo District.
“This morning we’re scheduled to be in Kyegegwa district. The police arrested many of our team members throughout the night. This morning, they have cancelled the venue which we booked to address our people from & are asking us to look for another venue!” Bobi Wine tweeted earlier this morning.
According to Marvin Saasi, the People Power head of Youths from Western Uganda, the army and Police arrested the NUP advance team to Kyegegwa yesterday ahead of Kyagulanyi’s visit.
“UPDF and the Officer in Charge (OC) of Kyegegwa District Police Station have arrested Bobi Wine’s Presidential Campaign Advance Team that had gone to organize his rally. Hassan, Akandonda Warren, Jacob Mwesigwa & Abbey Mutebi have just been dragged out of their rooms in Amca Suites.” Saasi tweeted on November 22nd.
