Simba Radio presenters under comedy group Bizonto have been arrested by Police for similar charges that prompted their initial arrest last year in July.
According to the CID spokesperson, Charles Twine, the quartet was arrested on yesterday night (Thursday) and are to appear in court later today.
“They are on their way to Buganda Road court. They had a sanctioned file for allegations of promoting sectarianism,” Twine said.
The four arrested “Bizonto” members include Ssabakaki Simon Peter, Julius Sserwanja, Mercel Mbabali and Gold Kimatono. In July 2020, they were arrested for releasing a satirical skit that targeted at institutional heads hailing from the western part of the country. Their message was interpreted as a means of exposing unfairness in the appointment system that favors a certain tribe.
The Police charged them because their drama had the potential of causing hatred and unnecessary apprehension. The same scenario has prompted their second arrest.
The group will be arraigned in court to answer the same charges according to police.
