Twitter has today announced that they’re setting up physical presence in Africa to help support and build conversation and free speech on the African continent.

On a blogpost put up by the American microblogging and social networking site, they have announced that they will set up physical presence in the west African country of Ghana.

“Twitter’s mission is to serve the public conversation, and it’s essential, for the world and for Twitter, to increase the number of people who feel comfortable participating in it. To do this, we need to make it easier for everyone to join in and provide more relevant experiences for people across the world.” A communication uploaded on their website reads in part.

To make their operations successful, they’re looking for specialists to join several teams including product, design, engineering, marketing and communications. The full details on current job openings are on the Twitter Careers site.

On why they’ve chosen to operate from Ghana out of all the African nations, the networking giant uplauded the nation for being a “champion for democracy, a supporter of free speech, online freedom, and the Open Internet, of which Twitter is also an advocate.”

“Furthermore, Ghana’s recent appointment to host The Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area aligns with our overarching goal to establish a presence in the region that will support our efforts to improve and tailor our service across Africa. ” The communication further reads.

Twitter Founder and CEO Jack Dorsey was among the very first Twitter executives to share the news on the app, and he clearly couldn’t hide his excitement on the prospect. He thanked Ghanian President Nana Akufo-Addo for the opportunity.

🇬🇭 Twitter is now present on the continent.

Thank you Ghana and @NAkufoAddo. #TwitterGhana https://t.co/tt7KR3kvDg
