Officers Arrested in Connection With Katwe Police Station Fire Arraigned Before Court

News coming in, four out five Police Officers who were arrested in connection with a fire that gutted the office of the Division Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Officer at Katwe Police Station last week, have been produced  before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo to face charges of abuse of office, corruption, destroying evidence and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The fifth accused who is the aide to the CID, Chanda Prossy Forsca  has not been produced in court.

Prosecution alleges that D/AIP Kibuuka Apollo, D/SGT Nangobi Mariah, D/C Bakole Karim, D/C Okello Moses, A/CID Chanda Prossy Forsca conspired together to destroy evidence with an intention to prevent it from being used in court.

The said evidence that was destroyed is cash exhibit of Shs 1M which  was required in evidence in a judicial proceeding. According to information this website is privy to, the accuseds allegedly committed the offence
between August and September, 2020 at Katwe Police Station.

D/C Bakole who is incharge of exhibits is separately charged with arson in which it is alleged that on 14th September, 2020 at Katwe Police Station, he willfully and unlawfully set fire to the office of the Division CID Officer at Katwe Police Station; the property of Uganda Police Force.

D/AIP Kibuuka who is incharge of the Land Desk is accused of having failed to disclose exhibit money recovered by him in the case of theft of Latto Milk; and further corruptly neglected to report the recovery of exhibit cash of Shs 1M.

D/C Bakole Karim denied the allegation before Chief Magistrate Pamella Lamunu Ochaya and has been remanded to Kitalya Gov’t Prison until 5th October, 2020 while his  3 co-accused officers have been granted a cash bail of Shs 300,000 for D/AIP Kibuuka Apollo,  and Shs 200,000 for D/SGT Nangobi Mariah, D/C Okello Moses each.

They have been cautioned to desist any temptation of interfering with the investigations and barred from stepping their foot at Katwe Police Station.

Prosecution’s Baine Stanley informed court that investigations in this case are still going on. The Officers are currently on interdiction and have been ordered to report back to court on 8th October, 2020.
