The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has issued a traitors’ alert upon the changing of guns by former party legislators who defected to National Unity Platform (NUP).

Hon John Baptist Nambeshe and Kassanda legislator Patrick Nsamba defected to National Unity Platform (NUP), a move that has not left the NRM cadres at luxury.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Director for Information, Publicity and Public Relations of the ruling NRM, Emmanuel Lumala Dombo asserted that these two are traitors to the NRM.

“We have the information about the defection of our members with surprise. These members have been groomed and nurtured by the NRM to the level of being presented and elected as Members of Parliament. Their action of abandonment is an act of betrayal to the people who first elected them,”Dombo stated.

“They will be required to account to the people for their actions and it is only time that will tell if the electorate were happy with their action.”

He further said that as a party, they will keep praying for them to return back as prodigal sons in the party since they aren’t the first lot to make such regretful moves.

“Losing members of the family is not anything to celebrate about. Even if one’s child is notorious for evil deeds, he cannot be wished away. Any responsible family member would continuously pray that such a demented family member may be rehabilitated and like the prodigal son in the Bible may reform and come back home,” Dombo added.

“As a party, we kindly request them to settle all their outstanding obligations to the party, if any, and we wish them well wherever they have chosen to go.”

He proudly praised the ‘democratic’ NRM and its norms since it provides no blockage to any member to join the ‘controversial’ opposition of Uganda.

“If along the way, they discover that they have after all been misled into making a wrong decision, the NRM will welcome them back and rehabilitate them through appropriate political education. This has been the bedrock of the NRM,” he said.

This follows the events that made rounds on the media about these two members of Parliament getting unveiled by the NUP, a political wing housed by Hon Kyagulanyi Sentamu’s People Power movement.
