The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Bunyangabu District have constituted a team of Boda Boda riders to sweep the area canvassing for the NRM vote among the people.

This group will traverse the mountain areas of Bunyangabu which has in the past seen a decline in the NRM support with the aim to encourage people to rally behind the party.

Speaking to the media at the event of flagging these teams off was the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Bunyangabu District, Jane Asiimwe, who was asked whether as an RDC, she should be engaging in partisan politics.

Asiimwe said that she was only making sure that the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed during the whole process and provide security to the processions.

“We are not partisan, these are young people who have decided to volunteer. We are only intervening to offer them security and also ensure that they observe the COVID-19 guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s),” Asiimwe said.

She added to give a background of the whole operation.

“They (the Bodaboda mobilizers) are more focused in the mountain areas. They are taking the message of security to an area that was in the past prone to attacks by the ADF rebels and this is a good message,” she revealed.

“When the ADF comes back, you will not expect music to save you or someone to sing and they go away. You cannot be a bishop when you have never held a bible. Given the security of the country, we are choosing the Commander In Chief of the armed forces who can secure the people of Bunyangabu,” the RDC added.
