The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi has announced that the exercise to pick the nomination forms which was supposed to end yesterday on 30th July 2020 has been extended to Monday 3rd August 2020.
The Ugandan Wire understands that the party extended the deadline for picking nomination forms because of Eid al Adha celebrations that have interrupted Friday, 31st July 2020 as a working day.
In a statement, Tanga Odoi explains that initially the exercise was being extended for only one day but since today is a public holiday and the following two days fall on a weekend, the last day for collection of nomination forms is Monday 3rd August 2020.
Aspiring candidates were also advised to pick forms from online on the party’s electoral commission website at www.nrmec.org or call the party commission’s Systems Administrators on the numbers provided on the website.
Dr. Tanga Odoi also announced that the extension would cater for people who have expressed interest in the newly created constituencies which are yet to be gazzetted by the National Electoral Commission
He further pointed out that they have opened up a window to cater for those who intend to contest in the newly created constituencies.
“The NRM Electoral Commission is awaiting clearance by Parliament and National Electoral Commission to call for expression of interest so that we open a window for them to be catered for,” said Dr Tanga Odoi.
In the same statement Dr Tanga Odoi also reminded the general public that the expression of interest and picking nomination forms for Local Government Councils will start on 7th to 11th August 2020 at the District NRM offices across the country.
