There is a nationwide power outage at the moment that our sources at the national power provider UMEME have attributed to ‘technical’ problems at the Owen Falls Dam.
“We (Umeme Ltd) are aware of the nationwide power outage happening now. We are working with our partners at UETCL and UEGCL upstream to resolve the matter. All inconveniences are regretted.” David Birungi of UMEME Ltd said.
The outage occured just minutes away from President Museveni’s address to the nation regarding the 14 day lockdown that ends at midnight today.
State House Senior Press Secretary, Don Wanyama, that has been cordinating the presidential address on the media said he is aware of the outage, signalling that perhaps the address can wait.
“About the current nearly countrywide loadshedding, it’s a technical problem at Owen Falls Dam caused by water-weeds affecting turbines. Engineers working to fix it. Let’s be patient.” Wanyama tweeted.
