The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has spoken against the detention of his musical prodigy, Ali Bukeni alias Nubian Li, and his personal bodyguard, Eddy Ssebufu alias Eddie Mutwe.
“Gen. Museveni thinks he can break me by tormenting my close comrades. Despite court ordering the release of Nubian Li and other campaign team members, they were taken to Makindye Military Prison in total disregard of the court order and now are being arraigned before a military court,” Bobi Wine said.
Bobi Wine claims they have been denied access to their lawyers, medical doctors and family members and that Museveni has previously tried to pay them huge sums of money to cease supporting him.
“They have to-date been denied access to doctors, lawyers and family members. Museveni has in the past tried hard to compromise them. People like Nubian Li and Eddie Mutwe have been offered crazy sums of money to disown me, but they have laughed at the dictator and stuck to the cause,” Bobi added.
Nubian Li and Eddie Mutwe were arrested on 30th December 2020 in Kalangala district where Bobi Wine had gone to campaign.
Police said on Monday that a total of 126 people who were arrested included Kyagulanyi’s drivers and private bodyguards would be charged with six counts.
