The Makindye Makindye Magistrates Court has ordered the release of Nigerian artistes Omah Lay and Tems together with their manager a day before their second scheduled court hearing.
Yesterday, 3 Nigerians; artists and manager were charged before the Makindye Chief Magistrate Court and remanded to Kitalya and Kigo Government Prisons for holding a music concert in Uganda where over 200 revellers who were not observing Ministry of Health guidelines on the spread of COVID-19 turned up.
The Nigerian artists are 23 year old Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, a 25 year old female Temilade Openyi alias Tems and their career Manager Muliwa Awoniyi who are all residents of Lagos in Nigeria .
They were been jointly charged with 4 Ugandan businessmen and organisers of the said music convert; Ivan Ddungu, Kisakya Phillip, Benjamin Kabuura and a woman Salima Kim.
All the 7 suspects denied charges of doing a neglect act likely to cause the spread of a disease which Prosecution’s Getrude Apiyo says they committed last Saturday 12th December, 2020 at Ddungu Resort in Mulungu in Munyonyo Makindye Division.
They appeared before Grade One Magistrate Jude Okumu who sent them on remand until 16th December, 2020 as investigations into their case continued.
Video clips of this concert were posted on social media something that angered Ugandan artists who were barred from holding music shows since March due to the COVID-19 Pandemic Lockdown prompting Police to swing in action.
