The Makerere University Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe has revealed to the public that the ventilator prototype, an innovation of the School of Public Health is ready and functional with mechanical coherence.
This ventilator was innovated by Makerere’s School of Public Health in partnership with Kiira Motors Cooperation and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
It is meant to aid the management of severe respiratory complications caused by COVID – 19 and is one the greatest technologies that will be used in the fight against COVID-19.
According to officials from the school, the testing and rehearsal process was supposed to start yesterday (10th April 2020).
In a twitter communication, Prof Nawangwe said that the ventilator is to be tested by anesthesiologists before full functionality is established. He added that the process will start next week on Tuesday 14th April 2020.
“I congratulate the team led by Paul Musaasizi of Kiira Motors, Roy Mayega of Makerere University School of Public Health and our Director Quality Assurance, Dr. Vincent Ssembatya (Team coordinator).” Prof Nawangwe announced.
