President Museveni has announced that Uganda will observe a 14-day mourning period in honour of the Late John Pombe Joseph Magufuli, the former President of Tanzania who was announced dead on Wednesday March 16th, 2021.

Magufuli, whom President Museveni has described as a “very pragmatic leader who believed in and worked for the economic empowerment of East Africans” was the 5th President of Tanzania and replaced former President Jakaya Kikwete.

Magufuli was replaced by his Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who was sworn into office in a ceremony yesterday.

President Museveni has also ordered that all Ugandan flags be hoisted at half mast across the country. Read below, his full proclammation.
