President Museveni has directed the Ugandan Embassy in New York to hoist the National Flag at half mast at the Uganda House in honour of the late Pierre Nkurunziza, the fallen President of the Republic of Burundi.
Nkurunziza, 56, died on the night of June 8th, 2020 with official government channels communicating that he suffered a heart attack. The government subsequently declared and has observed a full week of mourning.
There have been reports that the former leader of Burundi for 15 years succumbed to the novel coronavirus after his wife, First Lady Denise was admitted in Nairobi positive with the virus a few days before the President’s demise.
Burundi and Uganda have had decades of corporation and relations with the latter even helping them to join the East African Community, much as they are not geographically situated in the East African region.
It is therefore from that background that Museveni has ordered embassies and government bodies to fly flags at half mast in honour of the fallen ally and colleague to Uganda’s political interests.
“The Uganda flag at Uganda House New York [is] flying half mast in honor of the late Burundi Président Pierre Nkuruzinza, as directed by our President Yoweri Museveni.” Adonia Ayebare, Uganda’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations announced.
