As excitement continues to linger around and 2021 elections draw closer day by day, there remains a lot of uncertainity within the National Unity Platform (NUP) circles.
According to a complaint written to the chairperson Electoral Commission (EC) Justice Simon Byabakama, it alleged that the People Power base led by Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine reportedly used wrong methods to take over the leadership of NUP which was formely National Unity, Reconciliation and Development Party (NURP).
James Byamukama the petitioner queries the manner in which NURP came to be NUP and the routes which the Kyadondo East legislator used to be the political head of the institution.
In complaint letter to the EC, he says that extraordinary meeting held on the 14th July 2020 and attended by 51 unverified members out of the 400 degelates that rubberstamped Bobi Wine as the party’s sole presidential candidate violates the Party’s constitution.
Byamukama goes ahead to ask the Electoral Commission to correct the gross illegalities or else they will proceed court. In his response to the said allegations Bobi Wine said that the government is running a scheme to discourage the group and bring them down politically.
“They first tried to down play us, but they were not successful, now the thousands of leaders that have flocked our offices to register have scared the hell out of them”, Bobi Wine said.
The developments look like they will threaten Bobi Wine’s presidential ambitions. Such protests from the so called members of NURP are likely to trigger confusion within the People Power camp which will end up keeping away potential flag bearers for various elective positions.
