National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and his wife Babra Itungo Kyagulanyi have run to Court seeking orders against the Attorney General of Government, Commander of Defence Forces (CDF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to release them from unlawful confinement at Magere, Gayaza in Wakiso District.
Through Wameli and Company Advocates, the Couple argues that after casting their vote on election day 14th January, 2021, they went back to their home (Magere) only to find it surrounded by security operatives that include the army and police.
They say they are being illegally detained in their home for now 5 days without access to their family, friends and Lawyers to which they want court to intervene and prevail over the respondents servants to free them because their continued detention puts their personal liberties in jeopardy.
Justice Michael Elubu has been allocated this case and has fixed it for hearing this Thursday 21st January, 2021.
Kyagulanyi returned second in the just concluded presidential race. He, however, contests the results.
