The District Police Commander (DPC) of Kira Road Police Station, SP. Mathias Turyasingura has succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 virus. The Ugandan Wire has confirmed this from our sources within the Uganda Police and relatives of the late.

The late SP Turyasingura passed on at Mulago National Referral Hospital where he had been admitted with COVID-19 related symptoms. The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Mr. Luke Owoyesigire confirmed the report revealing that the DPC had lost the battle to COVID-19.

Turyasingura had for days been fighting for his life in the intensive care unit at Mulago.

Police officers and friends of the deceased have eulogized him saying he was a very down to earth man who loved his job and respected his colleagues senior and junior alike.

The late Turyasingura joined in the 2007 police intake when Gen. Kale Kayihura was the Inspector General of Police. He trained from Kabalye when Afande Kaweesi was the Commandant.

He underwent an intermediate course at Kaweweta, completed the Senior Command and Staff Course before he was posted as DPC Kira Road where he has been serving until he caught COVID-19.

“He was a good. He was in the same intake as the likes of Mwesigwa Frank, Ruhweza and Polly Namaye. I will miss him,” A Police Officer told The Ugandan Wire.
