A Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier has today (Wednesday) morning shot dead a man in the western Uganda district of Kasese for allegedly breaching the presidential directives in the wake of COVID-19.
According to reports our snoops have gathered from that side of the country, the deceased, a one Benon Musimenta, was carrying his wife on a boda boda – an act that is currently prohibited in the country.
The incident happened along Hima-Kasese when Mr Musimenta, a lay reader at Kogore Church of Uganda, was riding with his wife Allen Musimenta.
When the soldiers stopped them, according to the deceased’s wife, her husband stopped but the culprit soldier crossed from the other side of the road and shot her husband in the neck.
“They stopped us and when my husband stopped, I saw one of the soldiers from the other side of the road cross and shot him in the neck without asking any question,” Ms Musimenta said.
Captain Fidel Sonko Masumbuko, the Brigade spokesperson in the area of crime, said investigations into the whole scenario are already underway to establish the actual circumstances of the crime.
This is not the first time that a member of the armed forces is misusing their gun in this COVID-19 lockdown. About a month ago, an errant LDU officer in Masaka shot dead a boda boda man who was carrying a pregnant woman to the hospital.
The LDU officer was later killed by UPDF officer as he resisted arrest that same evening.
