Kampala Woman Member of Parliament (MP) aspirant and former Makerere University researcher Dr. Stella Nyanzi was yesterday arrested at the boarder town of Busia in eastern Uganda.

Nyanzi, who says she was arrested by armed security officials along with her political assistant Roy Rugumayo, added that she has no knowledge of the whereabouts of her driver and photographer.

“I spent last night detained in a cell somewhere in Busia town. I don’t know what police station I am detained in.” Nyanzi said in a statement on her social media.

“My political assistant Rugumayo Ka Kusemererwa and I were picked from my car by a gang of armed officers in Busia. We were dumped into holding cells without any charges. No statements were taken from us.” She further recounted.

She admitted that she is worried about the whereabouts of her driver and her campaign photographer who were arrested ahead of her and Mr Rugumayo but are not detained in the unknown detention facility they were in.

“What is our crime? Can somebody tell me? They did not even isolate us in isolation or quarantine holding facilities. We are in detention cells. Again, what is our crime? Is it a crime to be a Ugandan in Uganda? Third time, what is our crime?” Nyanzi questioned.

The two spent the better part of today morning cleaning the detention cells and are yet to be released or arraigned for trial.
