The Lord Mayor of Kampala City, Erias Lukwago, has crossed over to the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) after years of wrangles in his mother party, the Democratic Party (DP).
Lukwago, who has not yet announced a fresh bid for re-election as Lord Mayor is rumoured to be positioning himself as a presidential candidate ahead of 2021 in FDC.
Present at the unveiling ceremony and guest officiator was long time FDC presidential candidate Dr. Warren Kizza Besigye a four time presidential candidate in Uganda.
Besigye, a founding member of the party has in recent years grown very fond of Lukwago and went ahead to appoint him vice president of the People’s Government that was announced after the 2016 general elections.
“It is true to say that I have been to Najjanankumbi several times. I have flashed the V-sign and chanted FDC slogans before, but in the capacity of a visitor. I am very happy to announce today that I will continue doing all that but in capacity of a fully fledged member.” Lukwago announced.
FDC have not yet pronounced themselves on whether they will front Dr. Besigye again in 2021 or have a new face for the election. We shall keep you updated.
