Jothan Yamurebire Burobuto, a two time Speaker of the Students’ Body at Makerere University, the premier institution of higher learning in Uganda and a former President of the Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA) has declared a bid to challenge for President of Uganda in 2021.
Burobuto, who also leads a youthful platform (Progressive Youths Platform – PYP) has announced that he will be contesting for President of Uganda, adding his name to a list of Bobi Wine (NUP), Mugisha Muntu (ANT), and President Museveni (NRM) that has been president for 35 years.
Born in Bushenyi district, Burobuto went to St. Peter’s Primary School, Nsambya, Ntare School, Uganda Martyrs SS Namugongo and Makerere University School of Law. At the moment, he is a candidate at Kampala based Law Development Centre (LDC) for the bar course.
“Fellow Ugandans, I would like to take this opportunity to declare my aspiration to run for Presidency of the Republic of Uganda. Join us, #LetUsBeConcerned.” He announced.
Burobuto’s team have confirmed that over the past weeks, they have been traversing the country to gather signatures that support his candidature ahead of 2021.
He rides on the slogan #Bitukwatako to ignite a sense of belonging by the youths in the politics of the country. He says that the generations before us have taken charge of their destiny in very ceremonial styles and he wonders why it is taking so long for this generation to own up to their destiny and strive to make it better.
“My appeal to fellow youth is to realise that this is not just my race. It is not just about me. It is symbolic of the message I bring forth – taking charge of our destiny. The least we can do for our generation and the generations to come is engaging in this debate to have us managing our affairs and to do that we need to own this candidature.” Burobuto told this website.
