The Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi has unceremoniously withdrawn from the Igara West parliamentary race.
Mr Magyezi, who was prominent for moving a motion to amend Article 102(b) of the constitution has decided not to contest again in the upcoming 2021 General Election.
According to a close friend Apollo Kakonge, Magyezi “didn’t run away” from pressure in the race brought in by Gaffa Mbwatekamwa the current MP of Kasambya County, Horace Muhabuzi, Adrine Kobusingye and veteran politician Prof Tarasis Kabwegyere among others.
The Ugandan Wire understands that, Magyezi withdrew from the race because he wants to concentrate on the ministerial duties with his emphasis being put on the newly created cities in Uganda.
According to Magyezi’s political assistant a one Deus, it has been revealed that the current Local Government Minister is going to his constituency this weekend to explain to the electorate on the way forward about his candidature.
Attempts to reach Hon. Rapheal Magyezi on his known telephone numbers were futile as he could not pick our calls or answer our text messages.
So far 12 people have shown interest to contest for the hot seat currently occupied by Magyezi.
Political analysists say that Magyezi had become unpopular in the constituency and therefore it would be very hard for him to win the election.
