Katakwi District Woman MP Maj. Rtd. Jessica Alupo has sworn in as the Vice President of Uganda.
Ms Alupo was appointed Vice President by President Museveni to replace Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi who had been his deputy for the last 10 years.
“I thank the president for entrusting me with this honour of the second highest office in the land. I will not spare any energy in serving this country on this appointment,” Ms Alupo told MPs during a Parliament sitting that approved her appointment.
She has been sworn in at a ceremony organized at the Kololo Independence grounds attended by President Museveni and the First Lady Janet Museveni, who is also the Minister of Education and Sports.
“I promise that I will work with all the people regardless of their political shades, background or views. I also pledge to work with all sides of this August House, to ensure that the NRM manifesto is implemented to the dot as well as all other government programmes,” Alupo said during her approval by Parliament.
Ms Alupo becomes Uganda’s second female vice president following in the foot steps of former Vice President Specioza Wandera Kazibwe.
Kakumiro Woman MP, Ms Robinah Nabbanja has also been sworn in as the new Prime Minister.
