The Government of Uganda through the Province of the Church of Uganda Secretariat has today donated twenty heifers to Kigezi Diocese, as one of the ways of supporting Church in eradicating poverty among Christians.
The heifers were handed over to the Bishop of the of Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. George Bagamuhunda by the Church of Uganda, National Agricultural Advisory Services – NAADS Coordinator, Bingana Mworozi at Rugarama hill in Kabale Municipality.
Mworozi said that the heifers come following a request from Church of
Uganda last year by Retired Archbishop Rt. Rev Stanley Ntagali to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to support efforts to establish sustainable projects with a long term goal of boosting the household income of Christians.
In his remarks, Bishop Bagamuhunda thanked the government for the donation saying that it will help in improving the income of the Diocese as well as fighting poverty among Christians.
He said that Kaharo, Kagunga and Mayengo Parishes will each take two heifers while 16 heifers will be given to 16 Christians in the diocese.
The beneficiaries led by Jane Maganiro, Rachel Tumushangye and Patience
Kyaringabira among others commended the government and the Church of Uganda saying that the heifers will help to boost their household income.
