They say campusers “campus babes” play hard to get, but I stand to disagree with such conclusions. Not if you are straight to the point and direct in what you really want.
It’s a very cold Tuesday evening, am seated in my room, right at my reading table, so drawn away from the world that I hardly realized it had been raining outside until my roomie entered the room all dripping wet.
All I could think about was how to beat Ssajabi’s deadline. Yes it was micro-economics again! Those who have been at FEMA can relate, so close I was to completing the 20 page write up assignment when my stomach started grumbling. I hadn’t eaten anything since morning all in the name of academics.
Faizol my rolex guy in KK (Kikumi-Kikumi) was always my only supper option at such late times of the night. As I was there waiting for my nyanya-mbisi, a soft voice from right behind me orders for the same.
It was a rare scene to find a beautiful girl at a rolex stall. The small things that impress me are such, I said hey and jokingly offered to foot the 2K bill.
The blushing on her face was the first go sign I received, shortly both orders were ready and as I picked out my wallet to pay, she asked me,
“Is that all u can do to impress a woman? Clearing a 2K bill?”
Nevertheless, I paid as replied, “not really, what I can do to impress is way more than you can imagine at the moment.”
“What’s that exactly?” she asked. I blushed it over and offered to buy her a drink to accompany the rolex which she nodded to.
“I am Solo by the way” I introduced myself to her. “Solo for Solomon or Solo for Solo, Han Solo of Star Wars?” She joked and I was impressed once more.
“Solo, just Solo” I replied. In my mind I wanted to say, Kasolo but I kept it to myself.
“So, about the more I can do, do you mind if I escorted you to your place, because it’s late and I just want to make sure you arrive safely miss…, what’s your name again?”
“Marie, call me Marie, I live in the nearby hostel. So I will be safe no need to escort me, but thank you” she politely replied.
“What if I insisted on escorting you either way, would you be offended?”
“Are you trying to get the green light? If so, you don’t expect me to give it to a stranger, do you?”
“Every first-time friend is most probably always a stranger, what you do after the first meeting always sparks up a friendship to remember, at least I can take your number if you have declined my offer to escort you.”
The number, she gave me with ease and we both parted ways, a little disappointed but excited at the time, I walked back to my room with a very cold rolex in hand.
Here I am seated on my table, looking at the work again, I pick up my phone, dial her number and she picks up, “This is Solo right?” she asks.”
“Yeah, this is me, you guessed right” I exclaimed.
“Well Solo, come with your identity card to Waterloo hostel, you might need to sign in at the gate. Call me once you are around.”
I had never received such positivity in life, to hell with Ssajabi. I rushed back to KK, this time not to buy nyanya-mbisi but to eat a ripe tomato.
