The Member of Parliament (MP) representing Kasambya County in Mubende District, Daudi Kabanda has blasted the outgoing Minister of Security and National Resistance Army (NRA) historical Gen. Elly Tumwine for being a “hypocrite.”
MP Kabanda said this after Gen. Tumwine suggested that he would use his Advisory role that he has been appointed to, to encourage President Museveni to initiate a smooth transition from power.
“I am happy to be handing over to Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, a friend and an old-time comrade. I promise my resolute commitment to you in executing your official duties at the Ministry [of Security]. As I take on my new advisory role, I will advise President Museveni to prepare for a smooth transition of power for a long-term stability of our country.” Tumwine tweeted.
Immediately taking the offensive, MP Kabanda blasted the General for organizing schemes to undermine the government and said his statements don’t come in good faith [because he said them after being demoted from Cabinet.]
“So you have now remembered to talk transition after leaving cabinet? We know your blackmail and how you behaved before your appointment. Gen. David Sejusa was better than most of you because he never pretended hypocritically. Musheeshure turwane. We also know your Bahinda historical schemes against mzee!” Kabanda came lashing out.
Challenged by NBS News Anchor Samson Kasumba to state categorically whether he is for or against transition in Uganda, MP Kabanda said he was only against Gen. Tumwine’s hypocrisy.
“Hon. David Kabanda, do you want a smooth transition or not? It is that simple. Do you want power in Uganda to switch or to stay with President Museveni? These are the questions you have to answer here. Yes Gen. Tumwine has upset me a few times yes. But this is his opinion.” Kasumba weighed in on the matter.
“My brother, the particular exception I take with Gen Tumwine’s remarks is not necessarily about transition. I take exception with his blackmail/hypocrisy which has a history that those who care to dig deeper know. If Gen Tumwine had been reappointed Minister, would he be talking [like] that?” Kabanda responded.
As Security Minister, Gen. Tumwine was at his lowest in November 2020 when he justified the killings of innocent Ugandans going about their businesses at the time Kampala was in riots over the arrest of NUP Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi.
