Maj General Kasirye Gwanga, 68 served the Ugandan army for 47 years before he retired to concentrate on commercial farming and fighting against deforestation.

Today his sudden death news shocked the nation after battling a life threatening ailment at Nakasero Hospital.

According to family and military sources, Gwanga breathed his last at Nakasero Hospital this morning where he was admitted a few weeks ago.

”He cared a lot about the common person, worked on our roads and led by example. As a district we have lost a strong person,” teary Joseph Luzige, the chairman LC5 Mityana District told our reporter

Several other public figures have come out to celebrate his life and wish him eternal rest.

“Gen. Kasirye Ggwanga has departed his earthly struggles on National Heroes Day! I am sure being the consummate soldier he has been all his adult life, he must have asked God to take him on this day! Naturally befitting! May he rest well!” Journalist Charles Odongtho observed.

Simon Kaggwa Njala, also a journalist with NXT Media, said he is rattled by the incompetence that the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Spokesperson has exhibited at the death of Gen. Ggwanga. According to him, that’s not how an army general’s demise should have been handled.

“True, he’s retired but as a star General, all information about his state of health and death should have been centrally managed. The silence is telling.” Mr Njala tweeted.

According to information we have received, the late General’s body was taken from Nakasero Hospital at exactly 11:46 am by UPDF Medical Doctors to Bombo General Military Hospital in Luwero District for more Autopsy to establish the real cause of his death and give a report.

Developing story!
