The Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba hosted Congolese soukous star Awilo Longomba at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe on Monday.
The meeting was also attended by NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong, Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Balaam Barugahara, among others.
Awilo is in Uganda for a concert dubbed Afro-exclusive. He will headline the event alongside Nigerian singer and songwriter Chike.
The concert is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
Gen Kainerugaba last year met Jamaican music star Konshens with whom they discussed potential for collaboration between the Jamaican and Ugandan music industries, highlighting the shared opportunities and vibrant music scenes in both countries.
Longomba is celebrated for hits like “Karolina,” “Bundelele,” “Mobimba Ya Mama,” “Porokondo,” and “Champion,” among others. Chike is known for his popular tracks such as “Running,” “If You No Love,” “Insecure,” and “Roju
Later, he also met Mathias Kiwanuka, the grandson of Uganda’s first prime minister, Benedicto Kiwanuka, met with the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Monday.
Kiwanuka, a former American professional football player who played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL), has returned to Uganda with the aim of promoting American football in the country.
Defensive end is a player on the defence of an American football team who stands at the end of the line of scrimmage.
The 43-year-old athlete won two Super Bowl championships with the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI.
The meeting was facilitated by Mr Kwame Ruyondo.
During their discussion, Gen Kainerugaba pledged his support for Kiwanuka’s initiative.
