Security has arrested four men implicated in a series of attacks on women across Nakawa and Kawempe divisions in Kampala.

Among those detained are Stuart Wasswa alias Promoter, Saddam Kabuye, Paul Isabirye and Rivert Karungi.

This comes amidst heightened security investigations aimed at curbing the disturbing trend of violence against women in the Kampala Metropolitan Policing region.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the arrests, saying: “Upon interception, the suspects, who were travelling in a Subaru car, registration number UBH 356S, were found in possession of 27 SIM cards, women’s handbags and wallets, mobile phones and sh8.45m in cash.”

All suspects are currently being detained at Kira Road Police Station in the Nakawa division.

The arrests follow a troubling period, where the Police registered over 100 cases of attacks on women last month, particularly in Nakawa and Kawempe areas.

It also emerged yesterday that authorities had begun tracing the victims by collaborating with three telecom companies to establish the owners of the registered SIM cards that the suspects had on them.

Detectives are also scrutinising closed circuit television (CCTV) footage to track the suspects’ car movements within Kampala metropolitan area.

The arrest follows the apprehension of Isaac Niwagaba in May. Niwagaba, whose case is before court, is accused of killing five women at Kajjansi, Wakiso district.

In April 2017, a total of 23 women were killed in Nansana and Entebbe, both in Wakiso district.

Several suspects were arrested and charged with terrorism, murder and aggravated robbery.
