The Anti-Corruption Court has ordered Uganda National Roads Authority’s former Administration Officer Incharge of Transport and Logistics, Mr. Amon Tumwesigye to defend himself on 5 Counts that include Abuse of Office, Embezzlement of Shs 2.6M, Causing Financial Loss, Forgery and Uttering false documents.
Grade One Magistrate Moses Nabende made the order after evaluating the Prosecution evidence on Court record and found that 40 year old Tumwesigye has a corruption and fraud case to answer.
Court heard that in February 2017 at Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) Headquarters Nakawa in Kampala, in performance of his duties, Tumwesigye stole Shs 2.6M meant for the transportation of procurement and disposal unit documents from UNRA Headquarters Nakawa to Kyambogo offices in Kampala.
Tumwesigye is further required to explain the forged accountability documents he presented to UNRA Official Kuteesa Christine of another Shs 4M that was advanced to him on 3rd February, 2018 for transportation of documents from UNRA Headquarters Nakawa to Kyambogo Offices in Kampala.
However Tumwesigye mantains he is innocent of this allegation but presiding Magistrate Nabende has given him upto 25th January, 2021 to prepare for his defence and report back to Court on the said date.
