There is a live reading of Uganda’s 2020/2021 Shs 45 Trillion budget going on right now at Parliament by Finance Minister Hon. Matia Kasaija, who is doing so on behalf of the President.

Minister Kasaija is delivering the budget at the fifth and final session of the 10th Parliament under the theme: ‘Stimulating the economy to safeguard livelihoods, jobs, business and industrial recovery’.

Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, before the budget reading commenced, proclaimed that the August House observes that the financial year 2019/20 will end on June 30.

Rt. Hon. Kadaga also led the house in observing a moment of silence for high-profile people that have died in recent days, including Burundian president Pierre Nkurunziza, Uganda’s ambassador to UN Onyanga Aparr and Maj. Gen. Kasirye Ggwanga.

Minister Kasaija, who also represents the people of Buyanja County in Parliament, has said that Uganda’s GDP stands at Shs 138 Trillion and economic growth is predicted to be at over 3% for the year that ends on June 30. At exactly Shs 45.5 trillion, the 2020/2021 is Uganda’s biggest budget ever.
