Exclusively, The Ugandan Wire has established that President Museveni did not chair the National Resistance Movement (NRM) CEC meeting that is yet to come up with a decision on whom the party should back in the Monday election of Speaker for the 11th Parliament.

The meeting that started at 4PM today was chaired by Party Vice Chairman Hajji Moses Kigongo chaired the meeting as President Museveni did more of the listening.

According to our source in the meeting, President Museveni decided to take a neutral stand in the matter amid accusations especially from the Kadaga camp that he is favoring Jacob Oulanyah.

“President Museveni is showing legislators that he values both members of the party and wants them to all stay. He doesn’t want any of his children to feel less loved.”

Kadaga has been Speaker of Parliament for 10 years after serving another 10 as Deputy Speaker to former House Speaker and current Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

A decision on who the party will back will be made tomorrow by 10AM before the NRM Caucus convenes.
