Distribution of the Voter Location Slips in areas around Kampala started on Monday 4th January, 2020 at 10am with people turning up in big numbers.
The OC of Kapapali Old Mulago Police Station ASP Aronyu George Clive told our reporter that the Joint Security Force of Local Defence Units (LDU) and Police are ensuring that the registers and the people carrying out the exercise plus those who have turned up are safe.
In the process however, the Ministry of Health guidelines/SOPs on COVID-19 were gravely flouted as there was no social distance and washing of hands.
At a Police Station like the one mentioned above where seven zones had to pick their VLS, there was no provision for washing hands.
Residents were also not happy with the changes of shifting the exercise from zonal based areas to Police saying it’s inconveniencing them from going to their work on time and some not knowing which Police Station to go to.
However one of the Parish Supervisors of Mulago II on behalf of the Electoral Commission (EC) who chose not to disclose her name confirmed to our Reporter that the changes are purely for security purposes.
