Earlier today, a joint operation security forces and officials from the Ministry of Health, unearthed a COVID-19 patient who escaped from Kakumiro District to Kasese after testing positive for the virus on Wednesday.

The culprit, according to Apollo Mugume, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kakumiro, was among the 16 cases confirmed out of samples tested on June 24.

“The patient had travelled from Kasese with intentions of starting a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Kakumiro Town Council but was subjected to a COVID-19 test and had his samples taken on June 17 after the taskforce got suspicious.” Mugume told our reporter in Kasese.

The RDC further disclosed that after taking the culprit’s samples, he chose to self-quarantine as a measure of stopping further spread of the virus.

“If you know that you interacted with him, come out and give your contacts for help because voluntary check is the best now,” Samuel Kabinga, the Kasese District Surveillance Officer told locals.

“I received a phone call yesterday (Thursday) from Kakumiro that his results tested positive. I alerted security and for the whole night we have been tracing for him until today morning when we found him at Muyenga (an uptown residential area of Kasese town), we have taken him to Bwera hospital as we wait for (Fort Portal) regional referral hospital for treatment” Kabinga said.
