The President has suspended inter-personal visits between individuals effective immediately. Museveni says the reason is because people had taken advantage of the loophole in usage of private cars to use them as transportation means.

“Even if the private car owners had been disciplined, the movement of people with private cars and their families would still put the people at risk given the penetration of the virus.” Museveni said.

He announced that the ban takes effect from tonight 10pm (22:00hours) and will last for 14 days.

The president has also announced that all shops/stores that are NOT selling agricultural products and inputs, sanitizers and detergents or pharmacies should be be closed immediately.

The President also announced a ban on saloons, and lodges for a period of 14 days.

The President provided exceptions to usage of private vehicles where there is need for movement like pregnant mothers and very sick persons. That category of people shall have to seek permission from their area RDC, or risk having their vehicles towed away.

The government on 18th March, 2020 rolled out 13 guidelines that would help the nation in containing the deadly pandemic. Among them was the closure of all schools, a ban on church gatherings, ‘scientific weddings’ and private burial ceremonies. Later on, President Museveni suspended public transport.

The Ministry of Health, earlier today, informed the public that of the 82 tests run today, none tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Uganda therefore still stands at 33 cases of the virus.
