A large fire has gutted the Makerere University main building, popularly referred to as The Ivory Tower.
The building, that houses offices of the most university top management officials like the vice chancellor, the university secretary and the university bursar is the centre of all Makerere University operations.
In a statement published on social media, the university said that they’re undergoing a trying moment and asked the public to put them in prayer.
By press time, the cause of the fire was not yet known but the damage was excessive as the roof of the building had sink in, according to a statement from the university.
The Police Fire Brigade was already on ground doing their best to mitigate the risk of a full blown fire explosion.
“The fire brigade is on ground. Everyone is trying their best. The fire is heavy and sprouting from the right side of the Building. The fire flames are heavy coming through right side of the roof which has sunk in. We all need to pray for the Ivory Tower.” The statement further read.
